Many things have happened! My book on singing was released and got lots of good press. In february it got its second print which made me very happy! In december and january I went on with my solo experiments and did a couple of short solo performances. The concerts are still very inspiring and I feel that the program is still developing which is a good sign I think. The coming months I won't be playing a lot as I am preparing new music.

We are also busy finishing the mixing and mastering process of our new cd's. Yes, indeed, we are preparing more than one! We have done so many interesting projects in the past that it is just impossible to put this on just one cd! There will be trio recordings with sax player Andy Sheppard (UK), quartet recordings with Sylvain Beuf (Fr) and Michael Vatcher, recordings with the Dutch chamberchoir Het Nederlands Kamerkoor and recordings with Big Bizar Habit! Last but not least we are working on the DVD of the jazz opera Alice in Space.

Update on my book 2

The process of making and releasing a book is a rather long one. But in July my first book will be ready, it's quite exciting! Ramon Verberne has been working hard at the illustrations and they are now all finished. They look great! Also the bookdesign is almost ready.

In the meantime some important alterations have been made. The cover has been changed, but more importantly the book will have a different title:

PROFESSIONEEL ZINGEN VOOR IEDEREEN
Alles over pop- en jazz zangtechniek, studeren, optredens en audities

(Professional singing for everyone. All about pop- and jazz singing technique, how to study, perform and audition) The book will be released by Strengholt United Media and will cost €39,95. It has 403 pages. The isbn is 9789 0494 00354.



My book! 1

Years ago I started to write down some of the knowledge and information I'm teaching my students. It took quite some time to finish this writing project, but it's now in the process of becoming a -rather thick- book! The book will be released by Strengholt United Media next spring. The title will be "alles wat De Jazz en Pop Zanger wil weten" ("all The Jazz and Pop Singer wants to know"). You'll find more information about it in the near future!
Solo concert in the spring I have been invited to do a solo concert at the Utrecht Jazz Fest, an international jazz festival in Utrecht, next spring. Since long it has been my dream to do such a concert. At the moment my mind is full of ideas and possibilities and I'm actually in the process of experimenting. The concert will be at the Sju Jazzpodium, Varkenmarkt 2, Utrecht and will start at 17.30. 2008-2009 Big Bizar Habit

The jazz-chamber orchestra Big Bizar Habit, in which I'm singing and playing the piano, will be 'ensemble in residence' at the SJU Jazzpodium, Utrecht. We will be playing some new compositions and members of Big Bizar Habit will also contribute to other SJU activities. Be sure to check our agenda regularly!

Big Bizar Habit in a smaller line up will be performing in this 'Play for Voice', with composer/guitarist Marc van Vugt, poet/writer Ingmar Heytze and me.

07- Impro Vox

Stichting Swing just released a book about improvisation methods for voice. Nine singers each explain a different subject. You can read chapters on beatboxing, rap, and very interesting chapters on free improvisation and voice improvisations by Jodi Gilbert and Jaap Blonk.

Ineke wrote a chapter about scat singing. You can read about the history of scat singing, how to develop your own scat syllables, how to begin practicing and there is a short discography. Besides that, Ineke recorded some examples and play-alongs with pianist Jeroen van Vliet. Recommended! (But in Dutch only!)

07 Low Tide. Pianist Jeroen van Vliet and I will be doing a series of small concerts with painter Mattie Schilders. We will be playing material from our recent release "Low Tide" and some new and improvised material. Check the agenda agenda for the concert dates.

We have just finished the music for this great project with the Dutch Chamber Choir.
After two weeks of rehearsals we performed at the Concertgebouw In Amsterdam (1200 people showed up!!), the Muziekgebouw aan 't Ij and the Philhamonie in Haarlem.
